Geča (Hungarian Hernádgecse - until 1907 Gecse ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 1,829 (December 31, 2019) that the okolie Kosice Okres , part of Košický kraj heard and in the historical landscape Abov is.

The community is located in the southern part of the Košická kotlina basin on the Hornád river terrace . The center of the village is at an altitude of 181 m nm and is 12 kilometers south of Košice .
history
Geča was first mentioned in writing in 1255 as Jeche and at that time it was part of the land belonging to the Jasov priory . In 1828 there were 81 houses and 546 inhabitants.
Until 1919, the place in Abaúj-Torna County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. 1938-45 he was again in Hungary because of the First Vienna Arbitration .

According to the 2011 census, Geča had 1,622 inhabitants, of which 1,569 were Slovaks, 5 Russians, 4 Magyars, 2 Poles and 1 Czech. 41 residents gave no information. 1429 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church, 27 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, 22 residents to the Reformed Church and 15 residents to the Evangelical Church. 57 residents had no denomination and 68 residents had no denomination.
