Nižný lánec (until 1948 Slovak "Nižný Lánc"; Hungarian Alsólánc ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 460 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It is located in Okres Košice-okolie , a part of Košický kraj .

geography

The municipality is located in the southern part of the Košická kotlina basin , about 23 kilometers southwest of Košice and three kilometers northeast of the border with Hungary . The municipal area, which is only four kilometers long and one kilometer wide, extends along the Kamský potok brook, which rises south of Nižný Lánec at the transition to the hilly Bodvianska pahorkatina ( Cserehát in Hungarian ), feeds an approximately six hectare reservoir and in the north of the municipality flows into the Ida , a tributary of the Bodva , via the Perínský Canal . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 197  m nm in flat terrain with numerous small drainage ditches. South of the town center, the Pustý vinohrad elevation reaches a height of 301 m above sea level.

Neighboring communities of Nižný Lánec are Veľká Ida in the north, Perín-Chym with the district Vyšný Lánec in the east and Buzica in the south and west.

history

The village was first mentioned in writing in 1268, a source from 1298 testifies to a village called Lanch , which later became the Hungarian Lánc and the Slovak Lanec .

After the destruction by Turkish troops, the village recovered only slowly. In 1772 there were ten families, in 1828 the village already had 36 houses with 259 inhabitants.

In 1910 there were 269 people living in the village, including 265 Hungarians, three Slovaks and one German. Until 1918 Nižný Lánec / Alsólánc belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary like all of the predominantly Hungarian-speaking places in Abaúj-Torna County and then became part of Czechoslovakia . After the First Vienna Arbitration Award , they were again in Hungary from 1938 to 1945.

According to the results of the 2001 census, Nižný Lánec had 405 inhabitants, including them

  • 51.36% Hungary,
  • 24.94% Roma,
  • 11.85% Slovaks,
  • 0.49% Ukrainians.

40% of the residents professed their support for the Roman Catholic Church.

Attractions

  • The former manor house with a classical facade, a chapel and adjoining farm buildings was built in the early 19th century. After the death of the owner, who left no heirs, the mansion came into the possession of the community. After 1945 the area was used as a granary, after renovation work in the 1961s it still serves as the seat of the municipal office and as a cultural center.

Economy and Infrastructure

The community has retained its rural character. The residents work in agriculture or commute to industrial plants in and around Košice . There is a grocery store and a small pharmacy in the village.

The road from Kechnec to Rešica runs through the municipality . From the neighboring municipality of Buzica, roads lead to the cities of Moldava nad Bodvou and Košice. The nearest train station is in Čečejovce on the Košice-Barca – Rožňava railway, eight kilometers away.
