Kokšov-Bakša (until 1927 Slovak "Kokšov"; Hungarian Kokšov-Bakša ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 1,223 (December 31, 2019) that the okolie Kosice Okres , part of kraj Košický heard.

geography

The municipality is located in the southern part of the Košická kotlina basin on the right bank of the Hornád , just before the confluence with the Torysa . The center of the village is at an altitude of 190  m nm and is 13 kilometers from Košice .

Neighboring municipalities are Košice (districts Barca and Krásna ) in the north and northeast, Nižná Myšľa in the east and southeast, Geča in the south and Valaliky in the west.

history

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1262 as Baxa , then in 1302 as Boxa . In 1324 there was a mill in the village, at that time the provost of Myslava owned part of the property. 1427 15 porta are recorded in a tax register. A plague epidemic between 1739 and 1742 almost completely depopulated the village, which had to be repopulated afterwards. In the 18th century, most of the estates were owned by the Dessewffy family and the old University of Kaschau. In 1828 there were 47 houses and 344 inhabitants.

Until 1918/1919, the place in Abaúj-Torna County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was again in Hungary from 1938-45.

According to the 2011 census, 1098 inhabitants lived in Kokšov-Bakša, of which 1071 were Slovaks , three Magyars and one Pole and one Czech . 22 residents gave no information on ethnicity .

980 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 26 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, 12 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, five residents to the Apostolic Church, two residents to the Reformed Church and one resident each to the Jehovah's Witnesses and one to the Orthodox Church. 16 residents were without religious denomination and the denomination of 55 residents was not determined.
