Hodkovce (German Hatkotz , Hungarian Hatkóc until 1927 Slovak Hadkovce ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 325 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It is located in Okres Košice-okolie , a part of Košický kraj .

geography

The municipality is located about 17 kilometers west of the city of Košice . The municipal area of 7.57 km² extends from the southeastern foothills of the Slovak Ore Mountains in the north over the fertile hills of the foothills to the edge of the Ida lowland as part of the Košická kotlina basin in the south. The northern, mountainous third of the municipal area is covered by thick deciduous forests. Heights of over 500 m above sea level are reached here ( Biely kameň , 607  m nm ), while the center of the village of Hodkovce is 320 m above sea level. The 315 m high spur of the Toviky rises south of Hodkovce . Several mountain streams flow through the community area in a north-south direction, which flow together in Slany potok and drain over the Šemšiansky potok to the Ida.

Neighboring municipalities of Hodkovce are Hýľov in the north, Šemša in the east, Paňovce in the south and Nováčany in the west.

history

Settled in the early 14th century, the village was first mentioned in 1427 as Horhkowch . It was created as an extension of the neighboring village of Šemša, which belonged to the sphere of influence of the lords of the Spiš Castle . The place name was derived from the Slavic personal name Hodkov . About Hatkocz (1630), Hatkowcze (1786) and Hadkovce (until 1927) the name gradually developed into today's Hodkovce . In 1427 there were nine farms in the then scattered settlement of Hodkovce. After the Turkish invasions and especially after the battle of Mohács, Hungarians pushed north as new settlers joined the exclusively Slovak population . Until the Treaty of Trianon the village belonged to Abaúj-Torna County in the Kingdom of Hungary, from then on Hodkovce belonged to Czechoslovakia like all places in Abaúj-Torna County . After the First Vienna Arbitration , these communities were once again in Hungary from 1938 to 1945.
