Staicele (German Staizel ) is a small town in northern Latvia . The place was founded in 1864 and was granted city rights in 1992.
history
The village came into being after a bridge was built over the Salaca there in 1887 and a paper mill opened 10 years later. In 2016, 1025 inhabitants were registered.
Town twinning
The city is a member of a European Association of Stork Cities (ESCO), founded in 2001, whose members all have a stork in their city arms . Members are:
