Nagybajom is a Hungarian town in the county Kaposvár in Somogy county . The place has 3,465 inhabitants (as of 2011).
Geographical location
Nagybajom is located about 15 kilometers west of the city of Kaposvár . Neighboring communities are Pálmajor , Jákó and Kutas.
history
The first written mention of the place comes from the year 1197. During the Second World War Nagybajom was a front town for four months in 1945 . In 2001 the former large municipality received city rights.
European stork village
Nagybajom has been a European stork village since 1996 . In 1998 33 pairs of storks brooded here, compared to 4 in 1958. In 2003 there were still 380 pairs in the entire Somogy district. Somogy borders in the south on the 7,933 hectare Boronka nature reserve , where sea eagles and otters can still be found. A stork festival is celebrated at the beginning of June every year. There is an ecological city partnership with Schortens in Lower Saxony.

- Reformed church, built 1786–1787
- Jézus Szíve Roman Catholic Church , originally built in 1736 in Baroque style. The church was blown up in 1945 by German troops and rebuilt in 1950. The stained glass windows of the church were designed by the artist Ágnes Kertészfi. In the church there is an organ with 14 registers by Frigyes Paulus.

The main road No. 61 runs through Nagybajom, which is joined by the state roads No. 6618 and No. 6619. The nearest train stations are to the southeast in Kiskorpád and to the west in Böhönye, each about six kilometers away.
