history
The name of the place comes from a stone-covered spring ( kőkút ). From 1908 there was a state primary school in town and from 1902 to 1927 a credit union. At that time, 49 percent of the area was arable, 19 percent pasture, 15 percent wine-growing area, 8 percent meadows, 2 percent forest and less than one percent gardens. In 1925, two teachers worked in the school in the municipality that had become independent. About 60 percent of the residents could read and write. At that time there was a local reading group, a firefighter and a rifle association. Three blacksmiths and a shoemaker did their work in the village. There were two spice and general stores, a pub and a tobacconist. From 1936 to 1949, the municipality lost its independence and was administered by the Kadarkút municipality. In 1949 the community became independent again and in that year had 604 inhabitants. Between 1960 and 1974 there was the Petőfi production cooperative in the village.
