The E.402B is an electric locomotive series of the Italian state railways Ferrovie dello Stato (FS), of which a total of 80 vehicles were built in 1997-2000.
history
The FS E.402B is a further development of the E.402A , but has a higher weight than its predecessor and a newly designed and more futuristic car body . In addition, the E.402B only reaches a top speed of 200 km / h, while its predecessor model can reach 220 km / h.
The E.402B series is a fully electronic chopper locomotive . This means that the locomotives, which mainly operate on the Italian rail network, use a chopper to convert the DC voltage of 3000 V into alternating current, which then drives the motors.
The 80 vehicles with the registrations FS E.402.101 to 180 are used today in regular service at the FS. Although it was also designed for heavy freight trains, it is mostly used in front of passenger trains , primarily Intercity and Frecciabianca , also with control cars .
