József Szakovics

József Szakovics ( German : Joseph Sakowitsch , Slovenian : Jožef Sakovič , * around February 2, 1874 in Vadarci , Hungary , now Slovenia ; † September 22, 1930 in Unterzemming , Hungary) was a Slovenian author of prayer books and a Catholic priest in Hungary.

Szakovics was born in Vadarci ( Tiborfa ). He attended high school in Kőszeg and Steinamanger , where he also continued his studies in the seminary . He was ordained a priest on July 2, 1899 . In the first four years after that he worked as a chaplain in six parishes: in Pápóc , in Zalaegerszeg , in Weiden ( Bándol ), in Črenšovci ( Cserföld ), in Tischina ( Csendlak ), in Cankova ( Vashidegkút ), in Beltinci ( Belatinc ) , in Rechnitz ( Rohonc ) and in Unterzemming ( Alsószölnök ).

As chaplain of Tischina , he published the revised prayer book by Miklós Küzmics ( Nikolaus Küzmitsch ), the Molitvena kniga , in 1904 and began to write for the yearbook Kalendar Srcá Jezušovoga (Calendar of the Heart of Jesus).

In Beltinci he revised the Slovene Catechism (Katoličanski Katekizmuš). He had five schools built in the villages of Turnišče municipality and was appointed president of all school commissions in the municipality. In Turnišče and Polana ( Nagypalina ) he had a new church built. In Unterzemming he had the church, the rectory and then, in 1928, the bell tower renovated. József Szakovics worked twice in Unterzemming: between 1909 and 1913 and from 1924 until his death on September 22, 1930.
