The Gospel by István Küzmics.

István Küzmics (also: Štefan Küzmič , Števan Küzmič ; * 1723 in Strukovci; † December 22, 1779 in Surd) was a Protestant pastor, teacher and translator in Hungary . He is not related to Miklós Küzmics .

Küzmics was born in the Übermur region . He successfully completed his university education in Ödenburg ( Sopron ), Raab ( Győr ) and Pressburg ( Bratislava ). He was a pastor and teacher in the two Slovene-speaking villages of Tschobing (Nemescsó 1751–1755) in the northern part of Vas and Surd (1751–1755) county in Schomodi county .

In the 17th and 18th centuries, numerous Slovene families from Vas County settled in Somogy County. According to some research, three counties (Csurgó, Nagyatád, Marcali) are known where sixteen Slovene settlements emerged.

He also wrote both catechism and school books and translated the New Testament (Nouvi zakon ali testamentom, Halle 1771). The translation of the Gospels by István and Miklós Küzmics laid the foundation for the Prekmurian literary language . In his foreword, which is culturally and ethnically important, he writes the following:

"You, who reads the holy Slovenian book of the New Testament in your mother tongue, or will ever read it: show gratitude to the goodness of your God, but you should understand the book, which is a more precious treasure than silver and gold, in your language and act according to the will of God. "
