The Lendva , historically German as a whole, today only on the upper reaches of Limbach , Slovenian Ledava , Hungarian Lendva-patak , Croatian Ledava , is a river that rises in southeast Styria , crosses the Prekmurje and on the Slovenian - Croatian - Hungarian border into the Mur flows out.

Run and landscape

The river rises in the village of Pichla in the municipality of Kapfenstein , at the eastern foot of the Gleichenberger Kogel  ( 598  m above sea level ), at about 300  m above sea level. A. The upper reaches until Kölldorf also Limbach or Pichlagraben called to the state border also Lendvabach . There it runs south-eastwards, crossing the southern tip of Burgenland near Kalch (Neuhaus municipality) . There, it breaks through the guard bar as well as between Serdiški Breg ( 416  m. I. J. ) and Stadelberg  (Sotinski Breg, 418  m. I. J. ) those crest of East Styrian Hill Lands , which forms the border and Slovenia. From then on, the Ledava, as it is called in Slovenia, flows primarily southwards, through the Rogašovci valley through the Goričko hills . The Ledavsko jezero reservoir is located here , in which it receives the Lukaj from the left .

Alojz Eberl , around 1880

East of Bad Radkersburg , the southeastern tip of Styria, it enters the Ravensko plain , the northern part of the Pomurska ravan ('Mur plain '), after a good 20 km run . Through this it flows southeast again, parallel to the Mur (Mura), and takes in some smaller streams. It crosses the town of Murska Sobota , where the Puconski potok flows out and the Ledava-Mur Canal leaves. As a result, the Ledava passes through the Dolinsko area , accompanied by canals on both sides. The southern one is called Crni potok , the northern Radmozanski kanal (prekop). After a good 40 kilometers in this plain, the Ledava reaches the city of Lendava (Hungarian Lendva, German Unterlimbach). This is where the Kobiljanski canal flows from the left , it leads to the Bukovnica , which has also accompanied the Ledava as a canal to the north, as well as the streams from the eastern roof of the Goričko from Hungary.

After Lendava, the Ledava is still a good 15 kilometers from its mouth, but to the north of Mursko Središće the Mur is already approaching two kilometers. This area is called Lendovsko dolinsko (Lower Limbach Valley ), to the north is another hilly area, the Lendavske gorice . From south of Pince ( A5 - M70 border crossing) it forms the Slovenian-Hungarian border for its last 6 kilometers . From the confluence of the Kerka  (Krka) from Hungary, a network of oxbow lakes and wetlands is created that is already intertwined with the Mur. Here the border between Slovenia, Hungary and Croatia is unclear, Slovenia gives its national territory up to the mouth south of Muraszemenye , but according to the official map of this country the Ledava flows into the Krka. Hungary gives the Croatian-Hungarian border a good 1½ kilometers in advance, from where the Kerka flows into the Ledava. Opposite the Mur is the Croatian municipality of Podturen in the Međimurje region ('interstate of the Mur' to the Drava).

This triangle is also the easternmost point of Slovenia.
