Serdiški breg or Rdeči breg is a 416  m. i. J. high hill in Goričko in the Slovenian region of Prekmurje . After the neighboring Sotinski breg (Stadelberg) it forms the second highest elevation in the Prekmurje and Pomurska regions .

Location and surroundings

Serdiški breg is located about 1300 m southeast of the triangle of Styria / Burgenland / Slovenia near the Austrian border. It is located in the districts of Ocinje and Serdica in the Rogašovci municipality . In the east, the Ledava cut separates the elevation from Sotinski breg ( 418  m ). While the south and south-east slopes are largely populated and used for agriculture , for example for viticulture , the north side near Kalch ( Neuhaus am Klausenbach municipality ) is completely forest-covered. The Rotterberg ( Slovene Kefašev breg ) on the Austrian side reaches a height of 408  m above sea level. A. The hill is part of the Raab-Őrség-Goričko trilateral nature park .

Geology and geomorphology

Geologically, the Serdiški breg lies on the eastern edge of the Graz Bay , which is determined by tertiary sediments. Like the neighboring Stadelberg, Serdiški breg is also part of a geological window described in Austrian literature as the “Neuhauser Schieferinsel” . It consists mainly of Paleozoic slates , which, according to Helmut Flügel, belong to the Sausal group. The rock, which is not very susceptible to weathering, retained its plateau character. The name "Rdeči breg" (literally Red Hill ) is derived from the reddish soil, which is caused by the appearance of clay slate on the so-called Stadelberg level . The hill Črešnjevec ( 311  m ) to the southeast is separated from the Serdiški breg by a stream, which, like the Ledava Gorge, may have resulted from a disturbance .

tourism

Before the first geodetic surveys, Serdiški breg was believed to be the highest point of Goričko. A chalet built by the Rogašovci Tourist Board on the plateau is open on weekends and can be reached both on an asphalt road and via hiking trails. Like Sotinski breg , the hill is located on Via Pomurje (Pomurska Planinska Pot) , a 300 km long long- distance hiking trail through the Pomurska region. There is a control stamp on the outside of the chalet. In the immediate vicinity at the highest point of the mountain there is a wooden obelisk erected in 1995 .
