The Rongel Reef ( Bulgarian риф Ронжел rif Rongel ) is a narrow and crescent-shaped reef off the south coast of Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It extends in a northeast-southwest orientation over a length of 600 m off the northwest bank of the Emona Anchorage in the east of the island. When the tide is low, the rocks at the northeastern end protrude up to 3 m out of the water. The center of the reef is located 2.85 km north-northwest of Cape Hesperides , 3.12 km west of Aleko Rock and 3.35 km east-northeast of Ereby Point .
The reef corresponding to a moraine was created by receding glacier ice . The Bulgarian Commission for Antarctic Geographical Names named it in 1996 after the Brazilian ship Ary Rongel , which had logistically supported Bulgarian scientists in their work.
