The AD Lousada hockey division was founded in 1967. The club is one of only around a dozen hockey clubs in the Federação Portuguesa de Hóquei . The Juventude HC also exists in Lousada . Since 2003, AD Lousada has been using an artificial hockey pitch in the sports complex of the Estádio Municipal de Lousada . The men's team has been able to win the national field hockey title every year since 2008 and, with a total of ten titles, is in second place behind the Ramaldense Futebol Clube from Porto with 33 championships. The main competitor in Portugal is currently the CFU Lamas .

By 2016 Lousada was able to qualify ten times for European Cup competitions, but only for the lower-class challenges. The club was able to close four of them with the title. In 2016, AD Lousada only narrowly failed to rise to the second-rate trophy at the EuroHockey Club Challenge when the decisive game against the Belarusian representative SC Stroitel Brest was lost 4-2.
