Orange Zwart
The Mixed Hockey Club Oranje Zwart (abbreviated: OZ ) was a hockey club founded on September 1, 1933, which merged with the Eindhovense Mixed Hockey Club (EMHC) to form HC Oranje-Rood on July 1, 2016 . With 1700 members, OZ was the largest hockey club in Eindhoven .
history
Both the men's team and the women play in the highest Dutch league, the Hoofdklasse , in 2007/2008 . Oranje Zwart is considered one of the pioneers in the professionalization of top Dutch hockey. Under the leadership of the then chairman and now honorary chairman Joop Veelenturf, the club started some spectacular player engagements in 1995, the first of which was the change from German penalty corner specialist Carsten Fischer von Uhlenhorst Mülheim . The engagements of the Pakistani ball virtuoso Shahbaz Ahmad and the Australian top players Jay Stacy and Troy Elder followed .
To prevent young talent from being lured away by clubs in the Randstad , a hockey college was set up in 2002, in which young players aged 13 and over are specially trained. Since August 2006 the attacker of the Dutch national team Jeroen Delmee has been the head coach at the hockey college.
The men reached the finals of the national championship in 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2005. After three failed attempts, the team was able to win the first championship title in its club history in 2005 in the final series against HC Bloemendaal . In the 2006/2007 season, the team only reached ninth place in the Hoofd class. Instead, the women's team rose again in the season to the Hoofd class after being relegated in 2005.
The club complex in the Gemeentelijk Sportpark aan de Aalsterweg in the south of Eindhoven directly on the A2 with four artificial turf pitches is also used by the successor club Oranje-Rood.
