Burgerwiesen is a place and a cadastral municipality in the municipality of Altenburg (Lower Austria) in the Horn district in Lower Austria .

history

Burgerwiesen is mentioned for the first time in a letter of the monastery St. Nikolai near Passau made in 1076 as Purchwisen (Mon. Boica, vol. 4, p. 298); furthermore in 1144 in a Latin document of the Altenburg monastery , in which a Landtfridus de Burgaerewisin appears as a witness. In other sources the place is mentioned as Purchartiswisin . In modern times, the Altenburg Abbey held local authority. As a district of Altenburg, the place was never politically independent. Its history is closely linked to that of Altenburg Abbey .
