history

Rosenburg station in the Kamptal valley with a railway bridge over the Taffa, around 1900.

After the construction of the Kamptalbahn, opened in 1889, Rosenburg with its Renaissance castle developed into an important summer resort in the Kamptal. In addition to passenger traffic, the station was also of particular importance as a freight station, as there were two large mills in Rosenburg (one of which still exists today), which dispatched their milled products almost exclusively via the Rosenburg station.

In 1912 there was a train accident at Rosenburg station in which eight wagons jumped off the rails. After goods handling at the station had ceased at the end of the 1980s, the goods handling buildings located on the station premises were demolished in 1992, but the station building itself was extensively renovated. Today it is under monument protection ( list entry ). In 2016, Rosenburg station will be served by regional trains from ÖBB, which run every hour to every two hours .
