Henrik Pfeiffer

Henrik Pfeiffer (born September 17, 1964 in Potsdam ) is a German Protestant theologian and Old Testament scholar and since the winter semester 2009/10 full professor of the Chair of Old Testament I (history and literary history) at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg .

Life

From 1986 to 1992 Pfeiffer studied Protestant theology at the Sprachenkonvikt in Berlin (East) and the Humboldt University in Berlin. After completing his studies, he worked from 1993 to 2005 as a research assistant at Matthias Köckert's Old Testament chair at the HU Berlin. He received his doctorate in 1997 with a thesis on Hosea and completed his habilitation in 2003 with a thesis on the traditions of the origin of the god Yahweh . In 2003 Pfeiffer became a private lecturer in the Old Testament at the Humboldt University in Berlin. From 2006 to 2008 Pfeiffer was a Heisenberg fellow of the German Research Foundation . In the summer semester of 2007 he held a teaching position for the administration of the vacant professorship of the Old Testament at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena . Pfeiffer has been full professor for the Old Testament at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg since winter semester 2009/2010 .

Research priorities

Pfeiffer's main research areas are the religious and literary history of the Old Testament, the Book of the Twelve Prophets and Deuteronomic literature (especially the Book of Judges ). Current publication projects include commenting on the book of judges for the Handbook of the Old Testament (HAT) and the elaboration of a religious history of Syria and Palestine as part of the anthology Religions of the Old Orient for the Outlines of the Old Testament (GAT).

Awards

In 2004, Pfeiffer was awarded the Hanns Lilje Prize for the Promotion of Theological Science of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences for his habilitation thesis .
