The Spreewald Marathon is a popular sports event with a marathon in the Spreewald , which has been taking place in April since 2003.

Competitions

The main run takes place on Sundays. The route is an asphalt, flat circuit with start and finish in Burg and leads via Burg-Kauper and Burg-Kolonie through the landscape west of the village. It must be completed once by half marathon runners and twice by marathon runners.

Other runs that are part of the competition are a half marathon through the Spreewald biosphere reserve (circuit from Lübbenau via Lehde and Leipe and Burg-Kauper) and a 4.2 km run, both of which take place on Saturdays in Lübbenau , and a 10 km run on Sunday in Burg.

For cyclists , an individual time trial over 5 km is offered on Fridays and bike tours over 20, 42, 70, 110, 150 and 200 km on Saturdays . The competition also includes a marathon and a half marathon for inline skaters , walking over 10 and 21.1 km, hiking over 15 and 21.1 km and paddling over 10, 21.1 and 42.195 km. In addition, there are several night runs without timekeeping as well as children's runs.

Based on the most famous delicacy of the region, the Spreewald gherkins , the motto of the event is: On the cucumber, set, go. In addition, each finisher receives a heavy-weight metal cucumber instead of a medal.
