Start of the Baden Marathon 2012

The Baden-Marathon (official name since 2005 FIDUCIA Baden-Marathon Karlsruhe and since 2013 Fiducia & GAD Baden-Marathon after the main sponsor Fiducia IT AG) is a marathon in Karlsruhe that has been held annually in September since 1983. It is therefore the second oldest continuously held city marathon in Germany after the Berlin Marathon . A half marathon has also been offered since 1991, which soon surpassed the long distance in popularity and is now one of the largest in Germany. Also includes walking , Nordic walking and a "business team Marathon" to the program. In 1990 the German Marathon Championship took place as part of the Baden Marathon .

Route

The Baden Marathon is run over two different laps, whereby after the first lap the marathon switch comes about 200 meters before the finish , where the participants of the half marathon turn towards the finish. The runners who are registered for the entire route can also cross the finish line here and are then included in the ranking of the half marathon.

Start and finish are at the Europahalle Karlsruhe. From there, the first round takes you on the Kriegsstrasse through the Oststadt (Karlsruhe) to Durlach . In Durlach the route turns in the direction of Rüppurr and from there leads to the finish at the Europahalle. The route up to this point is paved throughout and can therefore be walked quite quickly.

In contrast, the second lap has been running since 2004 through the Günther Klotz facility , a traditional runner's area, and for several kilometers along the Alb . Via Mühlburg it then goes to Karlsruhe, whereby the route first leads through the Karlsruhe Palace Gardens and from kilometer 36 through the Karlsruhe city center to the destination. Because of a total of four bridges and a partially unpaved route, the second lap is more difficult to run than the first, which is why the route, although it is relatively flat, is not one of the fastest.

Special features in the area of the run

Train runner

There are now braked and train runners in almost every major marathon, including in Karlsruhe. Starting at 2:59 and in 15 minute steps, pacemakers lead to the desired target time.

Body painting / art performance

In addition to the actual idea of competition, the aim of the Baden Marathon is not only to hold the running event from a purely sporting point of view, but to make the Baden Marathon more interesting by integrating art in any form. The “ body painting ”, which has been carried out at the Baden Marathon since 2001, contributes to this aspect .

A runner enthusiastically reported to the organization team of the Baden Marathon about an art campaign by the artist Bettina Amann in a castle, where she designed him as the body-painted Greek god Hermes or the Roman god Mercury. “Merkur” was the first painted runner to bring the divine message to the Baden marathon. This is how the contact between the artist Bettina Amann and the Baden Marathon was established.

On the day of the marathon, Bettina Amann and her team of 2 to 3 changing helpers painted up to 20 runners early in the morning before the start according to a concept in which words are converted into moving images. One of the artist's concepts was that the bottom layer of paint was more or less waterproof, while the top layers were water-soluble. This idea by the artist Amann led to the fact that the “running art” looked different at the start than at the finish, as the water-soluble paint came off through sweating.

Melanie Möck has been doing body painting with runners at the Baden Marathon since 2007.

art

The kilometer signs have been artistically designed since 2004.

In 2007 the project “Karlsruhe Sound Beams” was realized, with the runners being exposed to music composed especially for the occasion over the last few kilometers.

Finisher medal

Since 2002 every finisher of both the marathon and the half marathon has received a medal depicting an important building from Baden. It is so far
