The Freiburg Marathon is a marathon and half marathon that takes place in Freiburg in March or April of each year as one of the major German spring marathons.

organization

The run was launched in 2004 by runabout sportmarketing GmbH from Munich and took 10th place among German marathon events in terms of the 2006 finishers. Since 2007 there has also been a competition for companies from the region: the South Baden Company Championships , which attract more and more company runners from year to year.
In 2017 runabout announced that it would no longer organize the event because it was no longer profitable for the company. The future organizer of the MEIN FREIBURG MARATHON is the municipal subsidiary Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe (FWTM) and the Baden Athletics Association.

The route leads through Freiburg on a circular course in two half marathon laps. Start and finish are in the exhibition center. The numerous bands on 21 kilometers, for which the event is known, are unique. The route has been subject to frequent changes, for some years now the route has led from the exhibition center via the freight yard and Herdern to the old town, along the Dreisam to the Black Forest Stadium and back through the old town via the Wiwilibrücke and the Stühlinger district to the exhibition center.

In addition to the marathon and half marathon distance, there is the possibility of forming a marathon relay with four runners. Since 2018, the Freiburg Marathon has also offered a 10 km route as an AOK health run, and from 2019 a mini marathon for children from two to nine years will take place on the Saturday of the marathon weekend. The Freiburg Marathon was held for the 16th time on April 7, 2019.

In 2020, the Freiburg Marathon had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany .
