Benedikt "Bene" Hoffmann (born March 9, 1985 in Recklinghausen ) is a German mountain , long-distance and ultramarathon runner who was also active in triathlon .

Life

Benedikt Hoffmann grew up in Recklinghausen and at the age of eight accompanied his father in 5 km runs. As a teenager, he also played soccer and continued to run on non-training days. After graduating from high school in 2004, I first studied forestry . From 2006 he studied biology, geography and chemistry at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg to become a teacher. From 2014 to 2017 he was a teacher at the vocational high school in Titisee-Neustadt ; Since September 2017 he has been teaching at the vocational high school in Tuttlingen . Benedikt Hoffmann lives in Stockach .

Benedikt Hoffmann started triathlon at the age of 17 and was active as a triathlete for a total of eight years. In 2007 he came second in the “King of the Mountains” cycling competition in Kirchzarten and in 2008 second in the Freiburg Triathlon over the Olympic distance (1 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running). In 2010 he started in Wiesbaden at the European Championships on the middle distance and came third in the 25-29 age group.

At the age of 28 years, he focused on the Running and focused on mountain runs and the marathon . He counts the former Japanese marathon and ultramarathon runner Takahiro Sunada among his role models .

The first podium at the German Championships erlief Benedict Hoffmann in October 2012, when he participated in two consecutive weekends, first with the German Mountain Running Championships in Brandenkopf mountain run in Zell am Harmersbach won a silver and a week later bronze at the German Marathon Championships under of the Munich marathon . Benedikt Hoffmann was appointed to the German national mountain running team and in 2013 came twelfth as the best German at the European Mountain Running Championships in Borowez ( BGR ). Also in 2013 he won his next DM medal in the mountain run with tenth place at the Hochfellnberg run in Bergen .

In 2014 and 2015, Benedikt Hoffmann finished in the top seven at the national mountain running and marathon championships. He was nominated for the 2014 World Mountain Running Championships in Massa ( ITA ), where he reached a 44th place, and for the 2015 European Mountain Running Championships in Porto Moniz ( PRT ) on Madeira , which he finished with a 35th place. Benedikt Hoffmann then expanded his competition repertoire to include the ultramarathon . He started 2016, which was his most successful to date, with a victory and course record in the 50 km ultra marathon Rodgau .

A fifth place in the individual and a third place with the team ( Lukas Naegele 8th place; Thomas Kühlmann 21st place) at the Mountain Running World Championships over the long distance 2016 in Podbrdo, Tolmin ( SVN ), a third place in the Tegelberglauf integrated German Mountain Running Championships in Schwangau , a 43rd place at the Mountain Running World Championships in Saparewa Banja ( BGR ), a fifth place at the German Marathon Championships as part of the Frankfurt Marathon and an eighth place at the 50 km Road running world championships 2016 in Doha ( QAT ) were the result.

2017 also began with a victory in the 50 km road race, at the Marburger Lahntallauf Benedikt Hoffmann won with a personal best and the twelfth fastest 50 km time in 2017 worldwide. In the summer he started at the German Mountain Running Championships in Bayerisch Eisenstein every two weeks , where he won silver for the second time after 2012, then crowned at the German Championships in the 100 km road race in Berlin by his first DM gold medal and ninth fastest 100 km time worldwide in 2017. This was followed by the European Mountain Running Championships in Kamnik ( SVN ) with a 31st place. Participation in both championships within a short time without sufficient regeneration did not go without criticism, for example from the German Athletics Association (DLV) .

Participation in the Swiss Jungfrau Marathon with a sixth place went better than the European Mountain Running Championships . As in the previous year, Benedikt Hoffmann took part in the German Marathon Championships integrated into the Frankfurt Marathon in 2017 and achieved seventh place in the individual ranking, but did not win with the team of TSG 1845 Heilbronn consisting of Holger Freudenberger and Markus Häcker after 2015 and 2016 again the silver medal.

After improving the course record he had set two years earlier at the 50 km Ultramarathon Rodgau in January 2018, the German Marathon Championships, which were hit by heavy rain showers, followed in April 2018 as part of the Düsseldorf Marathon , in which Benedikt Hoffmann came out on top for the first time after poor preparation - Missed seven and finished tenth. Benedikt Hoffmann finished sixth in the German Mountain Running Championships in Ilsenburg , which were part of the Brocken run, and the World Mountain Running Championships in Canillo ( AND ) in 22nd place.

In order to qualify for the European Mountain Running Championships 2019 in Zermatt ( CHE ), the German Athletics Association required participation in the Gamperney Mountain Run in Grabs (CHE). In consultation with DLV mountain running advisor Kurt König , Benedikt Hoffmann and Marcel Krieghoff instead qualified via the Lipizzanerheimat Berglauf with integrated Austrian State Championships in Graden ( AUT ), where Benedikt Hoffmann reached the finish about a minute before Marcel Krieghoff. In the end, Kurt König nominated Anton Palzer (without proof of qualification for a mountain run), Maximilian Zeus , Marc Schulze (both qualified via the Gamperney Mountain Run) and Marcel Krieghoff, for not considering Benedikt Hoffmann, the DLV named - Mountain running advisor Kurt König no explanation even on request. Instead, Benedikt Hoffmann took part in the Zermatt Marathon the day before the European Mountain Running Championships and won it as the second German winner.

At the Mountain Running World Championships over the long distance in 2019 in Villa La Angostura , Argentina , Benedikt Hoffmann finished in 21st place out of a total of 88 runners, and with the German team ( Moritz auf der Heide 13th place, Florian Reichert 40th place ) an eighth place out of a total of 19 teams.

In July 2020, he set an unusual world record on the treadmill. He ran the marathon with an incline of 10 percent in 3:50:55 hours. It was the fastest uphill marathon ever run on the treadmill.
