Porto Moniz [ ˈpoɾtu muˈniʃ ] is a village in the northwest of Madeira Island , named after the Portuguese nobleman Francisco Moniz. He came from the Algarve and had settled here in 1533.

Business in Porto Moniz used to be whaling and fishing, today it is viticulture and tourism.

The place has a harbor, a helicopter landing pad, a modern promenade and is known for the naturally formed swimming pools in the volcanic rock. The small rocky island of Ilhéu Mole, on which the Farol do Porto Moniz lighthouse is located, offers protection from the surf .
