route

Runner at kilometer 17 on the way to the top of the Hohenstaufen

The original route was 44 km long, and in the early years the event also included a mountain bike competition. A 50 km long circuit has been run since 1998, which leads over the Drei Kaiserberge .

Start and finish is in the old town of Schwäbisch Gmünd . First the course leads westwards along the Remstal and then turns south into the Beutental . After a first ascent you get to the laundry castle and then to Wäschenbeuren . From there it goes to the summit of Hohenstaufen , which is reached after 18 km. On the Ridge of the Aas it goes eastwards to the Rechberg , at the summit of which you have mastered half of the route and approx. 780 meters in altitude . The goal of the 25 km run is also located here.

The ultramarathon runners can expect another steep ascent on the Stuifen shortly afterwards . This is followed by a detour to the Reiterleskapelle with a tour around the Schwarzhorn. Then it goes via Waldstetten and Straßdorf to Klepperlestrasse , the former route of the Hohenstaufenbahn , via which you return to Gmünd. In 2007 the destination was moved from Schwerzerallee to the market square.

A total of 1,070 vertical meters have to be overcome for the ultramarathon runners .
