Tobias Sauter (born October 17, 1983 in Villingen-Schwenningen ) is a German marathon runner .

Career

He started running at the age of 14 and at the age of 16 already covered the 42.195-kilometer distance in the Frankfurt Marathon , in which he reached the finish in 3:16 hours. A year later it increased to 2:52 h. With training plans from the Internet, it improved continuously and in 2006 it stayed below the two and a half hour mark for the first time.

In 2007 he finished second in the German Marathon Championships and in 2008 third. When he won the Essen marathon around the Baldeneysee in 2:18:24 h in October 2008 , he accepted an offer from Waldemar Cierpinski to switch to his club SG Spergau , where he trains with Waldemar's son Falk .

In 2009 he qualified ninth in the Düsseldorf Marathon with his personal best of 2:17:27 h for the World Championships in Berlin . There he had to struggle with major problems right from the start and in 2:35:43 h he finished 66th out of 70 runners who reached the finish. According to his own statement, he started with a herniated disc and a torn tendon in his thigh and reached the finish.

After his injury, Sauter continued to train in the water (" aqua jogging ") and in 2010 achieved third place at the German half marathon championships , but gave up at the Düsseldorf marathon due to back problems. At the heat marathon of the European Championships in Barcelona he had the team doctor take him out of the race due to his circulation at the 30 kilometer mark. Then he lost membership of the DLV squad.

After the European Championships, he continued training and started at the Frankfurt Marathon at the end of October 2010 , but gave up prematurely. In the following years he also had to struggle with injuries. He also had to give up on a comeback attempt at the German Championships in Munich in 2012 because of a painful plantar tendon . He finished his comeback at the German Championships in Munich in 2014, but was disqualified because of allegedly minor shortcuts.

Sauter ended his professional career in October 2014 and has been the technical representative of the sporting goods company Nike since January 2015 .
