The Palatinate Wine Queen is the representative of the German wine-growing region Palatinate , who is elected for one year . In the following year, she has the opportunity to run for the election of the German Wine Queen .

history

In 1931 the Palatinate in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse was the first of the German wine-growing regions to choose a wine queen on the initiative of the publisher Daniel Meininger . It was Ruth Bachrodt from Pirmasens in the south-west Palatinate, where no wine is grown at all; she owed her choice to the fact that the organizers considered her the prettiest girl among the spectators in the hall and the jurors followed the suggestion. The candidate had previously been asked the question: “What does a wine queen need in any case?” Bachrodt had replied: “She definitely needs a pair of good shoes so that she can work in the vineyard.” So she also had the Pirmasens shoe manufacturer Daniel Theysohn , with whom she married in 1938, impressed.

Because the Palatinate Wine Queen was the only wine queen in Germany for years, she represented German wine in addition to Palatinate wine in general until 1939 and then again from 1947 to 1949 without any additional choice in personal union. In 1949 there was only one election, but afterwards Elisabeth Kuhn, later Gies , from Diedesfeld was officially designated as the German Wine Queen, who was the only Palatinate and German Wine Queen in the same year.

Modalities

The election of the Palatinate Wine Queen traditionally takes place during the German Wine Harvest Festival in the Saalbau zu Neustadt an der Weinstrasse on the Friday of the first festival weekend at the end of September or beginning of October. After a year in office, the Palatinate Wine Queen takes part in the election of the German Wine Queen together with the regional wine queens from the other twelve German wine-growing regions. Recently, in 2005, 2006 and 2014 the previous Palatinate wine queens Sylvia Benzinger , Katja Schweder and Janina Huhn also succeeded in being named German Wine Queen.
