Diedesfeld is a Palatinate winegrowing village and a district of the independent Rhineland-Palatinate city of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse , the center of which is around 3 km to the north. Until 1969 the place was an independent municipality.

geography

Diedesfeld is on the German Wine Route . In the course of time, the district has grown together structurally with the neighboring Unterhambach to the northwest , which belongs to the neighboring Hambach district of Neustadt .

The location in the Vorderpfalz , on the western edge of the Upper Rhine Rift , results in a mild climate. The Haardt mountain range in the west also keeps out a large part of the precipitation and favors warm summer temperatures.

The Schlittgraben, which rises to the southwest of Hambach Castle, flows - partially piped - from west to east through Diedesfeld. Its water reaches the Kropsbach via Nellengraben and Altenbach , which flows into the Speyerbach near Hanhofen , a left tributary of the Rhine .

history

Until the end of the 18th century, the place belonged to the Speyer Monastery . On May 28, 1794, it was partially the scene of the battle of Kirrweiler .

From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Diedesfeld was incorporated into the canton of Neustadt and had its own Mairie . In 1815 the place was added to Austria , just one year later, like the entire Palatinate, it moved to the Kingdom of Bavaria . In 1818 Diedesfeld was reclassified to the canton of Edenkoben . With this the community belonged to the Landau Landau until 1862 , from which the Landau District Office emerged .

From 1939 the place was part of the Landau district in the Palatinate . After the Second World War , Diedesfeld became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , Diedesfeld was incorporated as a local district in the independent city of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse on June 7, 1969 .

population

Population development

In 1815 the place had 1,161 inhabitants. Today Diedesfeld is increasingly becoming a residential suburb of Neustadt. In 2011, the population had increased to 2030, then to 2048 in 2012.

religion

There was once a Jewish community on site , whose deceased members were buried in Essingen .

politics

Local advisory board

A local district was formed for the Diedesfeld district . The local council consists of eleven members, the chair of the local council is chaired by the directly elected mayor .

For the composition of the local advisory board, see the results of the local elections in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse .

Mayor

The mayor is Volker Lechner (FWG), who won the repeat election on November 10, 2019 with 55.3% of the votes against his competitor Sabine Baßler (CDU). Lechner is the successor to Roland Henigin (CDU), who did not take up office after 25 years. The re- election had become necessary because Stefan Krumm-Dudenhausen (FWG), who was originally elected in the direct election on May 26, 2019, could not take office as an employee of a municipal company for legal reasons.
