Schöntal (Neustadt)
The Schöntal is a district of the Palatinate city of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse in Rhineland-Palatinate .
Geographical location
The district is 150 to 200 m above sea level. NHN at the western entrance of Neustadt in the still narrow valley of the Speyerbach , which breaks through the Haardt mountain range and first enters the hilly country on both sides of the German Wine Route before it reaches the Rhine plain . The Schöntal , which led to the naming, stretches following the course of the stream from northwest to southeast.
To the north, to the left of the Speyerbach, rises the Wolfsberg ( 490.7 m ) with the Am Wolfsberg nature reserve and the Wolfsburg castle ruins as a south-south-west runner of the 554 m high wine region . To the right of the stream lie the Königsberg ( 427.3 m ) southwest of the Schöntal and the Nollenkopf ( 490.3 m ) south-southeast . The Afrikaviertel stretches up on its northern slope .
The federal highway 39 , which is called Talstraße in the city center , and the railway line from Mannheim to Saarbrücken run through the Schöntal from Neustadt in the direction of Kaiserslautern .
history
The district emerged in the 19th century in the vicinity of factories that processed wood into paper using the Speyerbach water until 1902 , which was delivered by Trift from the Palatinate Forest . Today industry is making way for more and more residential areas.
