Ruth Bachrodt , from 1938 Ruth Theysohn , (born March 9, 1913 in Pirmasens , † March 5, 1997 in Ludwigswinkel ) was the first wine queen of the Palatinate to be Germany's first regional wine queen. She was a benefactress and honorary citizen of the communities Ludwigswinkel and Fischbach bei Dahn .

Life

Bachrodt, the daughter of a director of the Pirmasens electricity works and his wife, was elected the first Palatinate wine queen for one year in Neustadt an der Haardt in 1931 . She was then 18 years old. The Neustadt entrepreneur Daniel Meininger had the idea of choosing a wine queen . This concept of wine advertising was later imitated by all German wine-growing regions as well as in many other countries.

In keeping with the zeitgeist of the time, the most beautiful applicant should win the election. Bachrodt was chosen, although she did not come from a wine-growing region, but from an area that was known for the manufacture of shoes. Accordingly, she responded to the only question that was asked of her at the competition, namely the question of what a wine queen would need, namely shoes, in order to be able to work well in the vineyard. The first eleven Palatinate wine queens also represented German wine in personal union, so Bachrodt can also be considered the first German wine queen . Only later did the German wine queens hold their own election events.

In 1938 Bachrodt married the Pirmasens shoe manufacturer Daniel Theysohn (1904–1980). Together with him, she co-founded the Daniel Theysohn Foundation in Ludwigswinkel in 1970 , which supports young people in their training there and in the communities of Fischbach bei Dahn, Waldfischbach-Burgalben , Heltersberg , Schmalenberg and Geiselberg , and also throughout the Palatinate region, preferably in the Pirmasens region promotes other charitable causes. Ruth Theysohn and her husband later contributed shares in their company to the foundation, making it one of the largest in southwest Germany. Like her husband, she was given honorary citizenship of the communities Ludwigswinkel and Fischbach bei Dahn.
