Daniel Meininger (* 19th August 1876 in Wattenheim ; † 17th May 1964 in Neustadt on the Wine Route ) founded in 1903 with the first edition of the trade magazine The Wine Journal of the Meininger Verlag , which has since literature especially in the fields of wine , drinks and Pfalz laid. Meininger became known nationwide through various marketing campaigns in favor of the Palatinate wine , some of which have survived to this day.

Daniel Meininger had two children, a son ( Herbert Meininger , 1907–1987) and a daughter (Trudel Lindemann née Meininger, 1921–2013). After the grandson Peter Meininger initially took over, the publishing house is now run by the great-grandchildren Christoph Meininger (* 1964) and Andrea Meininger-Apfel (* 1962).

meaning

Meininger was particularly committed to the topics of Heimat and Palatinate wine . In 1929, on his initiative, a grape harvest festival took place in Neustadt for the first time , which bore this name and later became known as the German grape harvest festival . In connection with this, Meininger initiated the election of the German Wine Queen , which was first held in 1931. He also initiated the Landsknechte der Weinstrasse association in 1939 and the regular press table in 1950 ; From the merger of the two bodies, the Palatinate Wine Brotherhood emerged in 1954/55 . As a major regional event, Meininger organized a landing of the Zeppelin LZ 127 “Graf Zeppelin” on the nearby “Lilienthal” airport in Lachen-Speyerdorf, where he was the first chairman of the Neustadt a. d. Haardt acted. Daniel Meininger, together with his son and grandson, was honored with a plaque at the German Wine Gate in Schweigen-Rechtenbach in 2013 for his services . The forecourt of the Neustadt hall building was named after Daniel Meininger .

scholarship

In memory of Meininger, the Daniel Meininger Scholarship will be awarded today , a scholarship for particularly talented oenology students in Geisenheim , which is intended to enable them to continue their education abroad.
