Dietrich Wersich (born April 27, 1964 in Hamburg ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From March 7, 2011 until the general election on February 15, 2015 he was chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the Hamburg parliament . He was the top candidate of his party for the 2015 state election in Hamburg . Before that, he was Senator for Health and Social Affairs in Hamburg from 2008 to March 7, 2011 . From November 2010 to March 2011 he was also Second Mayor and President of the School and Vocational Training Authority .

education and profession

After graduating from high school in 1984 at the humanistic Johanneum in Hamburg, he completed his basic military service.

From 1986 to 1992 Wersich studied medicine at the University of Hamburg . He then worked until 1999 at the AK Ochsenzoll Hospital, Bethanien Hospital in the areas of internal medicine, geriatrics and geriatric psychiatry. From 2000 to 2002, he worked as a doctor in general medicine and surgery.

In addition to his work as a doctor, Wersich was also involved in the cultural field. In 1995 he founded the STAITSCH TheaterbetriebsGmbH for the Altona Theater , for which he worked as a partner and managing director until 2004. In 2002 the STAITSCH TheaterService GmbH was founded, of which he was also managing director. In 2003 he took over the performance of the Hamburger Kammerspiele and the Harburger Theater.

Since 1980 he has held various positions in the CDU, including a. from 1993 to 2008 local chairman of the Eppendorf / Hoheluft-Ost branch. In addition, he was a deputy of the environmental authority, a district representative and has been a member of the CDU state executive since 2000. From 1997 to 2004 and again from 2011 he was a member of the Hamburg Parliament , where he was, among other things, health policy spokesman and secretary of the health committee, as well as a member of the social committee and the budget committee, and from 2001 to 2004 a member of the science committee.

From April 1, 2004, Wersich was a member of the Senate Ole von Beusts as a State Councilor . Until April 30, 2006, he was State Councilor for Science and Health (Health Division). From May 1, 2006 he was State Councilor of the newly formed Authority for Social Affairs, Family, Health and Consumer Protection . In April 2008 he was appointed Senator for Health and Social Affairs in the black and green Senate. The election and swearing-in took place on May 7, 2008. After the break of the black-green coalition on November 28, 2010, the GAL senators were dismissed. Their functions were distributed to the remaining members of the Senate on November 30, 2010; Wersich took over the management of the authority for schools and vocational training as well as the office of the second mayor until the new constitution of the citizenship following the new elections in February 2011 . After the new election in February 2011, he holds the office of chairman of the CDU parliamentary group and is also its cultural-political spokesman.

On June 29, 2014, Wersich was nominated by the Hamburg CDU's regional executive board as the top candidate for the May 15, 2015 state election. He was thus a challenger to Olaf Scholz in the office of Hamburg's First Mayor.

In the general election itself, Wersich and the CDU could not prevail against the SPD and the First Mayor Scholz. The CDU slumped to 15.9 percent of the votes cast and thus achieved the worst election result in the history of the Hamburg CDU. Wersich thereupon renounced a renewed candidacy for the parliamentary group chairman of the new CDU parliamentary group. On March 2, 2015, he was elected First Vice President of the Hamburg Parliament with 107 of 120 votes cast. He is also the specialist spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group for culture and churches. On February 23, 2020, Wersich did not succeed in re-entering the Hamburg city council in the 2020 general election.

Personal

One of his four brothers is the former member of parliament Ekkehart Wersich . Dietrich Wersich lives with his partner.
