Reinhard Soltau
Reinhard Soltau (born August 29, 1941 in Bruchhausen-Vilsen ) is a German politician ( FDP ). From 2003 to 2004 he was Senator for Education of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg .
Life and work
After graduating from high school in Bremen , Soltau studied geography and mathematics in Erlangen and Hamburg . Until his appointment as senator, he worked as a senior teacher at various grammar schools in Hamburg . Since 2006 Soltau has been the regional chairman of the German War Graves Commission in Hamburg.
Soltau is married and has a stepson and a grandson.
Political party
Soltau has been a member of the FDP since 1967 . Since the 1980s, he has been a member of the state executive committee of the Hamburg Liberals . In January 2002 he was elected regional chairman to succeed Rudolf Lange . When he succeeded Lange in the Senatorial Office, he had to resign as state chairman, and Leif Schrader was his successor . From 2003 to 2005 Soltau was a member of the federal executive committee of the FDP .
MP
Soltau was a member of the Hamburg parliament from 1987 to 1993 , where he held the post of deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group from 1987 to 1991 . After the general election in 1991, he took over the chairmanship of the parliamentary group from Frank-Michael Wiegand . After the FDP failed to pass the 5 percent hurdle in the early parliamentary elections in 1993 , Soltau left the citizenry.
Public offices
On November 26, 2003, Soltau was appointed as the successor to Rudolf Lange as Senator for Education and Sport of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg .
Although Soltau was one of the most popular politicians in the Hanseatic city, according to a survey, the FDP, of which he was the top candidate, failed in the early May 2004 elections because of the 5% hurdle. Soltau therefore left the Senate on March 17, 2004.
