Leif Schrader (born January 26, 1969 in Hamburg ) is a German politician of the FDP and former member of the Hamburg parliament .

Life and work

Schrader was born in Hamburg as a member of the Catholic "minority". He passed his Abitur in 1988 at the ancient language school for scholars in the Johanneum , the city's oldest grammar school . After his military service in the Army Band in Lüneburg , he studied in Hamburg law and at the Open University of Hagen historical science . He has been a lawyer in Hamburg since 1998 . In September 2005 Schrader was elected Vice President of the American Football Club Hamburg Blue Devils , of which he was President from the beginning of 2008 to March 2009.

Political party

Schrader joined the FDP at the age of 17, influenced by Ingo von Münch . From 1991 to 1994 he was state chairman of the Young Liberals in the Hanseatic city and was also a member of the FDP state executive committee for the first time . From 1999 to 2001 Schrader was deputy state chairman of the FDP, but did not run again after he entered the Hamburg parliament. Shortly before the FDP's election defeat at the end of February 2004, Schrader was elected as the new state chairman (to succeed Reinhard Soltau , who took over the office of Hamburg's Senator for Education). After the resignation of the state board due to the election result (2.8 percent), Schrader again made himself available as state chairman and was re-elected by the state party congress. On May 6, 2005 he was elected to the federal executive committee of the FDP. In June 2005 Schrader was elected as a direct candidate for the FDP in the Hamburg-Mitte constituency for the 2005 Bundestag election. On May 2, 2006, after violent arguments with the delegates in relation to the work of the board at the 75th regular state party conference of the Hamburg FDP, Schrader resigned with the entire state board.

On June 19, 2008, Leif Schrader was elected as the new district chairman of Barmbek-Uhlenhorst with a clear majority . Since April 15, 2011 he has been president of the state party congress of the Hamburg FDP.

Schrader was a member of the Hamburg Parliament from 2001 to 2004.
