Horst Gobrecht

Horst Gobrecht (born November 19, 1936 in Hamburg ; † January 26, 2015 ) was a German politician of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and a member of the German Bundestag and the Hamburg Parliament .

Life and politics

Gobrecht was born the son of a grocery wholesaler. After attending school, he worked in his father's company in 1955/56, then switched to the Hamburg tax administration, where he was finally promoted to the tax council. From 1976 to 1984 and since 1991 he worked as an independent tax consultant.

He joined the SPD in 1959, joined the Jusos and was a member of the state executive committee of the Hamburg Young Socialists from 1961 to 1967. From 1974 to 1978 he was district chairman of the SPD sub-district Hamburg-Altona / Elbe suburbs and at the same time a member of the state board of the Hamburg Social Democrats.

German Bundestag

In the 1976 federal election, Gobrecht was elected to the German Bundestag via a direct mandate in the Hamburg-Altona constituency and had been chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the finance committee there since 1979 . After being appointed Hamburg Senator for Finance , he resigned his Bundestag mandate on June 29, 1984.

Hamburg citizenship

From 1984 to 1987 he held the office of Finance Senator in Hamburg. He took over the office on May 30, 1984 during the 11th electoral period for Jörg König (SPD) , who resigned on May 3 . From 1988 to 1991 he was the representative of Hamburg at the federal government. He took up this position in the Senate during the 13th electoral term on June 8, 1988 as the successor to Alfons Pawelczyk (SPD).

In his work as a member of the Hamburg Citizenship, he was on the Committee for Ports, Economy and Agriculture, the Legal Committee and the Culture Committee.

After his active parliamentary work, he was still a member of the Senate's Development Policy Advisory Board . In 2004 he and six other members resigned from the post because they could no longer work constructively with the State Councilor Reinhard Stuth (CDU).

Further offices and memberships

From 1997 Gobrecht was Honorary Consul of the Republic of Nicaragua in Hamburg. He was also a founding member of the children's aid organization Plan and from 1993 on the board of trustees of the organization. Horst Gobrecht was chairman of the board of the Hamburg Economic Forum, which u. a. Organizes lecture events on economic policy topics. From 2006 to 2013 he was also chairman of the supervisory board of the Association of Insured Persons .
