Frank Horch (born February 25, 1948 in Geversdorf ) is a German engineer , manager and politician ( independent ). Since March 23, 2011 he has been Hamburg's Senator for Economic Affairs , first in the Senate of Olaf Scholz and from March 2018 to October 2018 in the Senate of Peter Tschentscher .

Life

Horch completed a shipbuilding degree in Hamburg from 1969 to 1974 . During his studies he worked as a designer for the Mützelfeldtwerft in Cuxhaven and the HDW in Hamburg. He then went to Phoenix AG , where he became head of the development department in 1980. Most recently he was a general representative there. In 1993 Horch moved to Friedrich Krupp AG , for which he took over the management of the plastics plant in Hamburg-Harburg the following year. After the company was sold and renamed, he was Chairman of the Management Board of Harburg-Freudenberger Maschinenbau GmbH from 2005 . In 2008 Horch moved to the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg. In May 2008 he was also elected President of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce .

Entry into politics

At the beginning of 2011 Horch resigned as President of the Chamber of Commerce in order to pursue a political office: Around a month before the election for Hamburg's citizenship on February 20, 2011, Horch made himself available to the SPD as a candidate for the office of Senator for Economic Affairs in January 2011.

As a “shadow senator”, he named the deepening of the Elbe , greater funding for small and medium-sized enterprises and closer links between science and business as his political priorities and spoke out in favor of extending the service life of German nuclear power plants . Horch already played a role in Hamburg's political life as an honorary President of the Chamber of Commerce. During this time, he spoke out on other issues besides economic policy and criticized the school reform in Hamburg , which failed in 2010.

As a member of the Hamburg state government, Horch had been a deputy member of the Federal Council since March 23, 2011 .

Private

Horch has its main residence in Hamburg, in the Hafencity (as of 2014). His wife still lives in Buxtehude . They have two grown daughters and two grandchildren (as of 2011).
