Volker Lange (doctor)

Volker Lange (* 1946 in Kiel ) is a German doctor and professor as well as head of the Center for Obesity and Metabolic Surgery at the Berlin Vivantes Clinic Spandau.

Career

In 1967 he began studying human medicine in Hamburg, Heidelberg and Lübeck and graduated in 1973 with the state examination and doctorate. med. in Lübeck. From 1973 to 1974, Lange was a medical assistant in anesthesia, gastroenterology and surgery in Lübeck. From 1974 to 1975 he was an assistant surgeon at the Franziskushospital in Münster, then from 1976 to 1985 an assistant surgeon at the University of Lübeck. Lange became a specialist in surgery in 1981. He became a specialist in trauma surgery in 1985, then in 1989 as a specialist in vascular surgery. From 1985 to 1989 he was senior surgeon at the University of Lübeck.

In 1989 he completed his habilitation in surgery at the University of Lübeck. From 1989 to 1993 he worked as a senior physician at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich-Großhadern. He introduced minimally invasive surgery there in 1990 . He then moved to the Schlosspark Clinic in Berlin in 1993, where he was chief surgeon until 2007.

Lange became an Apl. Professor for surgery at the Humboldt University Berlin appointed. At Vivantes Klinikum Berlin Spandau, Lange has been head of the Center for Obesity and Metabolic Surgery since 2011.

From 1995 to 1999 he was visiting professor of surgery in Corrientes , Argentina. From 2007 to 2012 he developed the cooperation for laparoscopic surgery with the Noor Hospital in Bahrain.

Awards

In 2013, Lange was voted Germany's top doctor by the editorial staff of Focus magazine.
