Günter Elste

Günter Elste (born January 21, 1949 in Baalsdorf ) is a German politician of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and former chairman of the board of the Hamburger Hochbahn AG .

Life

After graduating from high school, Elste studied economics with a focus on business administration at the University of Hamburg from 1969 to 1974 and completed his studies with an examination for a degree in business administration .

In 1975 he started in the planning staff of the Hamburg Senate Chancellery under Hans-Ulrich Klose . From 1981 he worked for the municipal housing company SAGA , first as a staff unit manager and then as an authorized signatory . In 1989 he took over the management of the Hamburger Gesellschaft für Beteiligungsverwaltung (Holding of the Hamburg State Enterprises). From 1996 to January 31, 2016, he was CEO of the state-owned local transport company Hamburger Hochbahn AG. Elste was President of the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV) from 2003 to 2009 . He is also chairman of the Chamber of Commerce's committee for urban and regional development .

From September 1985 to 1997 he was a member of the Hamburg Parliament . During this time he was on the Constitution, Rules of Procedure and Election Review Committee, among others. From 1989 to 1996 he was chairman of the social democratic parliamentary group.

Günter Elste has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Hamburger Sparkasse (Haspa) since 2015
