Franz Froschmaier

Franz Froschmaier (born July 29, 1930 in Bamberg ; † January 8, 2013 in Brussels ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1988 to 1992 he was Minister of Economics for the State of Schleswig-Holstein .

Life and work

After graduating from high school , Froschmaier studied law at the University of Munich , which he completed in 1952 with the first state examination and in 1956 with the second state examination . He then worked as a lawyer in Munich . In 1958 he received his doctorate as Dr. jur. at the University of Cologne . In the same year he joined the European Economic Community as a civil servant . From 1966 to 1967 he was Deputy Head of the Information Office of the European Communities in Washington, DC From 1967 he was an advisor in Hans von der Groeben's cabinet . From 1970 to 1973 he was initially deputy head of cabinet and from 1973 to 1981, finally, he was head of the cabinet of the Vice President of the EC Commission , Wilhelm Haferkamp . From 1981 to 1987 Froschmaier was Director General of the European Commission for Information, Communication and Culture.

From 1995 to 2004 Froschmaier headed the Hanse Office , the joint office for representing the interests of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and the State of Schleswig-Holstein in Brussels.

Franz Froschmaier was married and had two children.

Public offices

On May 31, 1988, Froschmaier was appointed Minister of Economics, Technology and Transport to the state government of Schleswig-Holstein led by Prime Minister Björn Engholm . After the state elections in 1992, Froschmaier left the government on May 5, 1992.
