Klaus Wolfgang Müller (born February 21, 1971 in Wuppertal ) is a former German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) and current consumer advocate. From 2000 to 2005 he was Environment and Agriculture Minister of Schleswig-Holstein .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1990 at Wilhelm-Dörpfeld-Gymnasium in Wuppertal, Müller initially did civil service at Service Civil International e. V. in Bonn and then began studying economics at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel in 1992 , which he completed in 1997 with a degree in economics. In 1998 he was employed by the Schleswig-Holstein Investment Bank .

From July 1, 2006 to April 30, 2014, Klaus Müller was a member of the board of the North Rhine-Westphalia consumer center . With the beginning of this activity he resigned all his political offices and mandates. From 2006 to 2014 he was a member of the board of trustees of Stiftung Warentest , and has been a member of its board of directors since 2016. From January 2008 to April 2014 he was the deputy chairman of the working group of consumer organizations and from November 2012 to April 2014 he was deputy chairman of the board of directors of the Federation of German Consumer Organizations (vzbv), after having been chairman of the committee for three years. From 2010 to 2015 he was a member of the board of the German Consumer Protection Foundation . During the eight years as a member of the board of directors of the consumer center in North Rhine-Westphalia, the network of advice centers was expanded from 54 to 60. a. led and won against RWE and Deutsche Telekom as well as new cooperations and a. closed with the State Criminal Police Office of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Since May 1, 2014, Klaus Müller has been a member of the board of directors of the German consumer association vzbv . In the current legislative period, u. a. At the instigation of the vzbv, the German Bundestag resolved the model declaratory action on June 14, 2018. This was ended on February 28, 2020 with a settlement before the Braunschweig Higher Regional Court. He was a member of the Federal Ministry of Transport's autonomous driving ethics committee , which presented its final report on June 20, 2017, and the data ethics committee of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Justice , which presented its report on October 23, 2019 . Internationally, he represents the interests of the vzbv in the European umbrella organization BEUC , in Consumer International and in the transatlantic consumer dialogue TACD. Klaus Müller has been a member of the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party since 1990 . From 1992 to 1994 he was a member of the Kiel district board. From 1994 to 1997 he was the spokesman for the state executive in Schleswig-Holstein, from 2000 to 2006 he was also a member of the party council of the federal party and from 2005 to 2006 of the Schleswig-Holstein party council. In 1998 and 2002 he was a member of the Finance and Budget group at the red-green coalition negotiations in Berlin (these negotiations led to the formation of the Schröder I and Schröder II cabinets ) and a member of the commission for the development of the green policy program.

After the Bundestag election in 1998, Klaus Müller became a member of the 14th German Bundestag ; he was elected via the state list of the Greens Schleswig-Holstein . Here he was the financial policy spokesman for the Bundestag parliamentary group Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen. On March 31, 2000, he resigned as an MP.

From 2005 until his resignation on June 16, 2006, he was a member of the state parliament of Schleswig-Holstein and responsible for the finance, economic, energy and transport policy of his parliamentary group.

Klaus Müller is married, has two children and lives in Berlin .

Public offices

On March 28, 2000, Müller was appointed Minister for the Environment, Nature and Forests (from 2003 Environment, Nature Conservation and Agriculture) of the State of Schleswig-Holstein to the state government led by Prime Minister Heide Simonis . Since the unsuccessful re-election of Heide Simonis on March 17, 2005, he has only been in office as a manager. After the subsequent formation of a grand coalition and the election of Peter Harry Carstensen ( CDU ) as prime minister, he left the state government on April 27, 2005.
