Andreas Breitner

Andreas Breitner (born February 24, 1967 in Kiel ) is a former German politician ( SPD ). Breitner was Interior Minister in the Albig Cabinet of Schleswig-Holstein from 2012 to 2014 , Deputy Chairman of the SPD Schleswig-Holstein and there Chairman of the Social Democratic Community for Local Politics (SGK).

Since 2015 he has been the association director of the VNW , Association of North German Housing Companies

Professional background

Breitner studied from 1987 to 1990 at the Altenholz University of Applied Sciences (Police Department) and graduated with a degree in administration . For ten years he worked in various police stations, most recently as head of the criminal police advice center in Kiel. From 2000 to 2003 Breitner worked as a personal advisor to the Schleswig-Holstein Minister of the Interior, Klaus Buss . In October 2002 he was directly elected mayor by the citizens of Rendsburg and took office on April 1, 2003. In the mayoral election on September 12, 2010, he was confirmed in office for a further eight years against two non-party competitors with 87% of the vote. In 2012, Andreas Breitner became Minister of the Interior in the Albig cabinet . Since 2015 he has been director of the VNW Association of North German Housing Companies

Political commitment

Breitner joined the SPD in 1985. A year later he took over local political offices in Schwedeneck and Dänischenhagen . Until 2003, he worked here as a community representative, deputy mayor and member of the official committee. After his election as mayor, Breitner became chairman of the supervisory board of Stadtwerke Rendsburg GmbH in 2003. Since 2004 he has been a member of the project group “Quality of Life in Cities and Towns” of the SPD party executive in Berlin and one year later became regional chairman of the Social Democratic Society for Local Politics.

In 2006, he took over the chairmanship of the Association for the Education of Young Politicians and the Technology Region KERN. Breitner was Deputy State Chairman of the Schleswig-Holstein SPD from 2007 to 2014. After Torsten Albig was elected Prime Minister on June 12, 2012, Breitner became Minister of the Interior in Albig's cabinet . On September 25, 2014 Breitner resigned as minister and declared that he also wanted to give up his position as deputy state chairman of the SPD Schleswig-Holstein . Breitner justified the resignation with family reasons. One day before his resignation, he was appointed director of the Association of North German Housing Companies. However, he did not take over the task until July 1, 2015. His own SPD parliamentary group and Prime Minister Albig criticized this approach. Since then, he has not held any political office. In the meantime, Andreas Breitner heads the specialist forum "Urban Development, Construction, Real Estate" of the SPD Economic Forum and is a member of the committee of the SPD party executive committee "Affordable Housing and Social Land Policy".

Breitner was a member of the twelfth Federal Assembly for the election of the German Federal President in 2004 for the Schleswig-Holstein SPD . Breitner was also a member of the Federal Assembly in the election of the Federal President in 2009 and 2010 .

Breitner is married, has three children and lives in Rendsburg.
