The GdW Federal Association of German Housing and Real Estate Companies is a federal professional association and interest group for the housing industry in Germany. It has its seat in Berlin and the legal form of a registered association . Its members are in turn associations, mostly state associations. As the “Association of Associations”, the GdW is the leading association of the German housing industry.

The GdW (originally: General Association of German Housing Companies) is the direct successor of the GGW, the general association of non-profit housing companies, which was renamed and reoriented as a result of the abolition of non-profit housing in 1989. He continues to represent many of the formerly non-profit housing companies, which, in comparison to the times of non-profit housing, have often grown into large listed companies with a stronger market orientation.

Member associations

The 15 member associations have around 3,000 members. Together they represent a stock of approx. 6 million apartments, which corresponds to around 17% of the total or 30% of the rental apartment stock in Germany.

The association is a member of the European Movement Network and the Federal Association of Central Associations of the Real Estate Industry .
