Mesa Air Group, Inc. is the parent company of Mesa Airlines, Freedom Airlines and Air Midwest , based in Phoenix , Arizona , USA. In early 2010, the company had to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

It is a public limited company and, in addition to the airlines, operates a number of flight service companies. The airlines fly mainly under the names US Airways Express , United Express and Delta Connection to 148 destinations in 38 states in the USA, as well as Mexico and Canada.

history

The company was formed in 1980 as JB Aviation , based at Farmington Four Season Regional Airport , New Mexico, by Larry and Janie Risley with a capital of $ 140,000 with a Piper Chieftain . In the early years, the Mesa Air Shuttle battled established airlines such as Air Midwest , Sun West Airlines , Pioneer Airlines , Jet Air , Trans-Colorado Airlines and Airways of New Mexico .

A joint venture was concluded with the Chinese Shenzhen Airlines in 2005 to set up Kunpeng Airlines . In August 2008, Mesa Air Group announced the sale of its shares in Kunpeng Airlines to Shenzhen Airlines. After that, Kunpeng Airlines was renamed Henan Airlines .
