Mesa Air Group, Inc. is the parent company of Mesa Airlines, Freedom Airlines and Air Midwest , based in Phoenix , Arizona , USA. In early 2010, the company had to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

history
The company was formed in 1980 as JB Aviation , based at Farmington Four Season Regional Airport , New Mexico, by Larry and Janie Risley with a capital of $ 140,000 with a Piper Chieftain . In the early years, the Mesa Air Shuttle battled established airlines such as Air Midwest , Sun West Airlines , Pioneer Airlines , Jet Air , Trans-Colorado Airlines and Airways of New Mexico .
In 1984, Mesa received its first Essential Air Service contract from the Civil Aeronautics Board . The flight destinations were Roswell , Hobbs and Carlsbad, followed by a second contract for the destinations Silver City , Alamogordo , Las Cruces and Gallup .
In 1987, Mesa Air Shuttle went public as Mesa Air Group, Inc. with 865,000 shares for $ 7.50. From 1989 Mesa grew steadily through acquisitions, expansion of the route network and code share agreements. The balance sheet total in 2007 was $ 1.4 billion, the number of employees approximately 5000.

A joint venture was concluded with the Chinese Shenzhen Airlines in 2005 to set up Kunpeng Airlines . In August 2008, Mesa Air Group announced the sale of its shares in Kunpeng Airlines to Shenzhen Airlines. After that, Kunpeng Airlines was renamed Henan Airlines .
