Klaus Rave (born February 9, 1950 ) is a German lawyer and honorary professor . from 1975 to 1978 he was state chairman of the Young Socialists in Schleswig-Holstein. After passing the second state examination in law, he was a lecturer in German and International Law at the University of Surrey from 1978 to 1981. From 1982 to 1988 he was state manager of the ( SPD ) Schleswig-Holstein , from 1988 to 1995 head of the energy industry in the state government of Schleswig-Holstein and from 1995 to 2011 member of the board of the Schleswig-Holstein investment bank . From 1993 to 2015 he was a member of the board of the European Wind Energy Association (now WindEurope) and from 1999 to 2002 its president, from May 2010 to May 2016 Chairman of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and since 2013 honorary professor at the Flensburg University of Applied Sciences .

Klaus Rave put 1968 his Abitur at the Jungmann school in Eckernförde from, then studied at the Christian-Albrechts-University at Kiel Law and closed it in 1973 with the first state examination from. He then went to Trinity College Dublin for a one-year postgraduate scholarship in order to complete his legal traineeship at the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court in Hamburg from 1974 to 1978 (interrupted for his doctorate) , which he completed with the great legal state examination. In 1982 he was promoted to Dr. iur. is doing his doctorate at the Kiel Institute for International Law .

In 1982 he was appointed state manager of the SPD Schleswig-Holstein by the SPD state chairman Günther Jansen and as such experienced the Barschel-Pfeiffer affair and the change of government in the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein in 1988 , which led to an absolute majority in the SPD (54.8 % of the vote). When Günther Jansen became his party chairman, the new minister for social affairs, health and energy, after the formation of the government he entrusted him with the task of setting up a new department for energy management in order to organize the start of a new energy supply without nuclear power. In the position of department head (ministerial director) he remained under Jansen's successor Claus Möller .

In 1995 he resigned from the ministry and moved to the then organizationally independent central division of the Landesbank Schleswig-Holstein as manager of the still legally dependent Investitionsbank Schleswig-Holstein. The state of Schleswig-Holstein created the investment bank in 1991 to bundle its promotional activities by transferring the former housing credit institution and the economic development fund to the Landesbank. When the investment bank was separated from the Landesbank in 2003 and renamed an independent institution under public law , the state government appointed Rave to the new board. He worked there until he left in 2011. He was then appointed part-time director of GEWOB Nord eG for three years, on whose advisory board he is still active.

Commitment to the expansion of wind energy

Since 1988 he has been working for the State of Schleswig-Holstein in the FGW (Fördergesellschaft Windenergie eV), at times also as its advisory board chairman and chairman. From 1988 until today he is a member of the supervisory board of Energiesystem Nord GmbH. Rave has been a member of the Executive Committee or Board of the European Wind Energy Association (now WindEurope) since 1993 and was its President from 1999 to 2002. From 2010 to 2016 he was chairman of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC). From 2007 to September 2013 he was Chairman of the University Council of the Flensburg University of Applied Sciences and from 2010 to 2013 Chairman of the Supervisory Board of WKN Windkraft Nord AG. Since 2013, he has been an honorary professor at the Flensburg University of Applied Sciences, where he holds lectures on global markets and framework conditions, international institutions and associations, the energy industry, regulation and energy policy. He is also chairman of the WindEnergieZirkel Hanse eV In 2012 he was awarded the German Renewable Energy Award for his life's work. He has been the Vice President of the Offshore Wind Energy Foundation since 2016.

Other honorary positions and personal matters

Klaus Rave is the 1st chairman of the Schleswig-Holsteinischer Kunstverein eV He was appointed to the board of the Landeskulturstiftung by the Schleswig-Holstein state government. He belongs to the invitation group of the Kiel Salon for Economy, Science and Culture.

He is married to the former Schleswig-Holstein State Minister Ute Erdsiek-Rave (SPD) and has two daughters and a son.
