Georg-Berndt Oschatz (born April 5, 1937 in Zwickau ) is a former German administrative officer and politician. He was Lower Saxony's minister of education and mayor of Wiesbaden .

Life

Oschatz was born in the Zwickau district hospital because there was no maternity clinic in Schönheide , where his parents lived at the time. He first attended high school in Aue (Saxony) and then switched to Christian school in Hermannsburg near Celle. In 1957 he graduated from high school before starting to study law in Hamburg . The first state legal examination took place in 1961, the second in 1965. In 1966 Oschatz entered the higher general administrative service of the state of Lower Saxony.

In 1963 he joined the CDU, and in 1968 the Lower Saxony Minister of Education Richard Langeheine brought him to the ministry as a personal advisor. After the break of the grand coalition in Lower Saxony in 1970 and Langenhein's departure, Oschatz was appointed head of the scientific service of the CDU parliamentary group in the Lower Saxony state parliament . He also took on mandates in the City Council of Hanover (1972–1974) and in the Lower Saxony state parliament, to which he first belonged in the eighth electoral period from June 21, 1974 to May 12, 1976. In 1976 he went to Hildesheim and held the position of senior city director there. From 1980 to 1982 he was Lord Mayor of the Hessian state capital Wiesbaden .

On September 1, 1982, Oschatz was appointed State Secretary in the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior for a few days in order to avoid gaps in his provision as a civil servant. On September 22, 1982, Lower Saxony's Prime Minister Ernst Albrecht brought him into his cabinet as minister of culture , to which he was a member until April 1987. During this time he was a member of the state parliament for a second time from June 21, 1986 to April 30, 1987. From 1987 until his retirement in April 2002 he was director of the Federal Council and head of the Federal Council administration.

In 1999 he was appointed honorary professor at the German University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer , where he had also taken on teaching positions . In 2003 he finished his work as a lecturer with a lecture on the topic “Are we living in a tied republic? - Observations of tensions and forces in our state system from the practice of governance and administration ”.

Georg-Berndt Oschatz lives in Karlsruhe today .
