Achim Exner (born December 1, 1944 in Breslau ) is a German economist . From 1985 to 1997 he was Lord Mayor of Wiesbaden .

Life

Exner has been a member of the SPD since 1966 . From 1967 to 1972 he studied economics at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . From 1972 to 1975 he worked in Wiesbaden for a tenant protection organization.

He later became chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the Wiesbaden city council and then became a full-time member of the municipal administration of the Hessian state capital as head of social affairs . In 1985 he was elected mayor and was re-elected in 1991, the last time by the city council. Shortly afterwards, he was the first mayor in Germany to take six months of childcare leave . In 1997 he did not apply for a third electoral term. Exner is considered to be the discoverer of the later Lord Mayor Gerich .

Until March 2011 he acted as the Bundesliga committee chairman of the VC Wiesbaden and is chairman of the club “Blauer Salon” in Achim's council house.

He has two daughters.

Honors

1997 Entry in the Golden Book of the City of Wiesbaden. Exner has been an honorary citizen of the city of Görlitz since 2000 . He is also the city ​​elder in Wiesbaden.
