history

The early years

Immediately after it was founded, 1. VC Wiesbaden played in the Bundesliga until 1984. After relegation followed fourteen years in the second Bundesliga south before the VCW had to relegate in 1998 to the Regionalliga Südwest. The club managed to get up again immediately and Wiesbaden played in the second division for five more years until they returned to the Bundesliga in 2004.

In the Bundesliga since 2004

Wiesbaden have played in the Bundesliga since the 2004/05 season . After an eighth place in the main round, the promoted player remained without a win in the playdown round and was ninth on points and in sets with the relegated Emlichheim. A year later they were the best team in the playdown round, finishing seventh. In the DVV Cup, the VCW lost to the Dresdner SC in the round of 16 both in 2004/05 and in the following season . In the 2006/07 Bundesliga season , however, the team was able to defeat the eventual champions from Saxony in the main round and finished fourth after the championship round. In the DVV Cup , she also went one round and had to admit defeat to the eventual winner Schweriner SC in the quarter-finals . The Bundesliga season 2007/08 they finished level on points with Bayer Leverkusen in fifth. In the DVV Cup they managed to get their revenge against Schwerin before losing to NA Hamburg in the semi- finals.

After the championship round of the Bundesliga had been abolished, Wiesbaden took fifth place again in the 2008/09 season , while in the DVV-Pokal they were again eliminated in the round of 16 against Dresden. In 2009/10 the VCW achieved the greatest success in the club's history when it became German runner- up behind the tied Red Raben Vilsbiburg . There was the same duel before in the cup quarter-finals , which Vilsbiburg also won. As runners-up, Wiesbaden entered the European Cup for the first time in the 2010/11 season, but was eliminated in the first round of the Challenge Cup with two 1: 3 defeats against the Belgian team Asterix Kieldrecht . In the quarter-finals of the DVV Cup , the VCW Smart Allianz Stuttgart had to admit defeat, and in seventh place in the Bundesliga , the club could not build on the success of the previous year. Wiesbaden also qualified seventh in the 2011/12 season for the playoff quarter-finals, which were lost to Vilsbiburg. The VCW was more successful in the DVV Cup , where it was only defeated by the Schweriner SC in the semi-finals. This duel occurred in both competitions the following season. In the semi-finals of the Bundesliga playoffs , which Wiesbaden had reached fourth, there were two 0-3 defeats. In the DVV Cup , the two teams faced each other in the final in the Gerry Weber Stadium , which Wiesbaden also lost 3-0. In the 2013/14 season, Wiesbaden was eliminated from the DVV Cup in the round of 16 against Schwerin. In the Bundesliga , the club came second in the main round again to the playoff semifinals, where this time they had to admit defeat to the Rote Raben Vilsbiburg after three games. In the playoff semifinals 2014/15 , the VCW managed a 3-0 home win against Dresdner SC, which eventually reached the final. In the DVV Cup , Wiesbaden again lost the round of 16, this time against Stuttgart. In the quarter-finals of the DVV Cup 2015/16, the Hessians were defeated by the eventual double winner Dresden. In the playoff quarter-finals , they had to admit defeat to USC Münster after three games in fifth place in the main round . In addition, the club entered the European competition for the second time and played in the CEV Cup against Polski Cukier Muszyna . Despite a home win against the multiple Polish champions, Wiesbaden was eliminated in the first round. The 2016/2017 season ended for VC Wiesbaden with the bronze medal, as the Hessians only had to admit defeat to the future German champions SSC Palmberg Schwerin in the playoff semifinals .

Venues

Until 2014, the 1st VC Wiesbaden played its home games in the hall on the 2nd ring. At the beginning of the 2014/15 season, the club moved into the new hall at Platz der Deutschen Einheit. There is space for a total of 2,100 spectators.
