Georg Buch (born September 24, 1903 in Wiesbaden ; † August 5, 1995 there ) was a politician of the SPD . Buch belonged to the constitutional state assembly in Hesse , was a member and later president of the Hessian state parliament and from 1960 to 1968 mayor of Wiesbaden.

education

Buch attended elementary school from 1909 to 1917 . He then completed an apprenticeship as a typesetter at the Carl Ritter printer in Wiesbaden from 1917 to 1921 . As early as 1919 he was a union member of the youth organization of the Association of German Book Printers . After his apprenticeship, interrupted by wandering, he worked as a printer's assistant and typesetter, among others at the Wiesbaden companies Ritter and Friedmann.

In 1929 and 1930 he attended the Academy of Labor at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt . He then worked briefly in 1931 at the Zeidler printing company in Wiesbaden-Biebrich .

In 1920 he joined the Workers' Youth Association and in 1921 the SPD. In 1928 he became the head of propaganda for the Wiesbaden sub-district of the SPD.

In 1933 Georg Buch became a city councilor and chairman of the SPD in Wiesbaden. From September 14 to September 28, 1933, he was in protective custody . He then earned his living as a sales representative: first for coffee, then for household items, and between 1938 and 1940 as a sales representative for Holsteiner Lebensmittelwerke. From 1940 to 1941 he was an impregnator (foreman) at the Karl Büger company in Wiesbaden and thus, among other things, construction manager in the area of ​​the Luftgau in western France in La Rochelle .

Between 1941 and 1945 he was due to preparation for high treason in various prisons in investigation and criminal detention and was in the concentration camps Hinzert concentration camp and Sachsenhausen interned.

From 1945 to 1946, Buch was party secretary (managing director) of the SPD Wiesbaden. From 1946 he was a city councilor and city councilor (department for nutrition and economy) in Wiesbaden and chairman of the SPD city council group. From 1954 he was mayor and from 1960 to 1968 lord mayor of Wiesbaden.

In 1946 he was also a founding partner of the Frankfurter Union printing company. He was also a member of the Presidium of the Sachsenhausen Committee for the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1946 he was a co-founder of the Hessian regional association of the Association of Victims of the Nazi Regime (VVN) based in Giessen.

In 1946 he was a member of the state assembly advising the constitution (Greater Hesse) . Buch was a member of the Hessian Landtag from 1946 to 1950 and from 1954 to 1974. From 1959 to 1960 he held the office of chairman and from 1960 to 1966 that of vice chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. From 1966 to 1974 he was President of the Hessian State Parliament.

From 1947 to 1954 he was chairman of the local association or the sub-district of the SPD Wiesbaden. From 1954 to 1962 he was deputy chairman of the SPD district of Hessen-Süd.

Between 1971 and 1980 he held the office of chairman of the Kuratorium Indivisible Germany (Landeskuratorium Hessen).

Buch found his final resting place next to his wife Anna in the north cemetery in Wiesbaden.
