Erwin Lang (politician)

Erwin Lang (born March 14, 1924 in Bad Nauheim ; † February 29, 2020 ) was a German educator and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending primary school, Lang participated in World War II as a soldier from 1942 to 1945 . He passed the Abitur and then took up studies in mathematics, physics, law and political science, sociology, comparative cultural studies and political science in Darmstadt , Frankfurt am Main and Mainz , which he completed with a doctorate to become Dr. phil. finished. From 1946 to 1955 (at the same time as his studies) he worked in the Hessian school service. Most recently he was employed as a middle school teacher in Frankfurt am Main from 1951 to 1955.

Erwin Lang married Martha, née Wolf, in 1944 and has one daughter.

Political party

Lang was a member of the SPD.

Lang had been a member of the Groß-Gerau district council since 1956, where he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group from 1964 to 1968 and chairman of the district council from 1968. On April 3, 1964, he moved to the Hessian state parliament for his late party friend Wilhelm Arnoul , where he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group from January 1967 to October 1969 and chairman of the budget committee from 1974 to 1982. 1978 to August 1983 he was deputy chairman of the subcommittee on state budget accounting. From 1976 to 1978 he was deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. Lang served as President of the Hessian State Parliament from October 13, 1983 to April 23, 1987 and was then one of the Vice-Presidents of Parliament. On July 31, 1988, he resigned from the state parliament due to the affair surrounding the parliamentary increases in diets . Lang has always been elected in the Groß-Gerau II constituency since the state elections in 1966 .

He was a member of the 6th and 8th Federal Assemblies .

Public offices

Lang was mayor of the city ​​of Raunheim from 1955 to 1969 . From October 22, 1969 to December 16, 1970, he was the Hessian State Minister of Finance in the state government led by Prime Minister Albert Osswald .
