During the " Third Reich " Arnoul had to emigrate to France . Wilhelm Arnoul was arrested on March 6, 1933 and removed from his office as mayor on March 15, 1933. As a result, he fled to France. In 1943 he returned to Germany under a false name, but was arrested anyway, but then released. He lived near Stuttgart until the end of the war .

After the war , from June 1945 he was again (appointed) mayor of his hometown for a short time and from 1946 to 1950 elected district administrator in the Offenbach district . Between 1950 and 1961 he was district president in Darmstadt .
