Herbert Hunkel (born April 11, 1945 in Neu-Isenburg ) is a German politician ( independent ) and mayor of the city of Neu-Isenburg in Hesse .

Life

Hunkel was born the son of a precision mechanic and a white goods seamstress . He has two sisters.

After graduating from secondary school in 1961, he began an apprenticeship in the Neu-Isenburg city ​​administration . After completing his training in 1968, Hunkel married his first wife. In 1988 he was appointed chief executive officer of the city administration. His wife died in the same year. In 1994, Hunkel married for the second time.

On March 1, 1998 he was elected to the First City Council of Neu-Isenburg and confirmed in his office on December 10, 2003.

On May 30, 2010, Hunkel was elected mayor as the successor to Oliver Quilling with 58.9% of the votes cast. Hunkel is non-party, but is supported in the city ​​council by the CDU , whose faction is now First City Councilor Stefan Schmitt.

On September 27, 2015, he was confirmed as mayor. He won the direct election with 77.7% of the vote; his opponent Thilo Seipel (FDP) received 22.3% of the vote.

In his free time, Hunkel is committed to the Association for History, Homeland Care and Culture Neu-Isenburg e. V. (GHK) , of which he has been the first chairman since 1990. He is also a founding member and chairman of the Huguenot and Waldenser Path Association.
